grouptherapy. Blackout
“Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. One is responsible for life: It is the small beacon in that terrifying darkness from which we come and to which we shall return.”
– James Baldwin
Off the album ‘there goes the neighborhood ‘ by grouptherapy comes the single, blackout. Ricky teamed up with artist of the group KOI to direct this piece. We really wanted to create vignettes that felt otherworldly and apocalyptic. Between the narrative scene in the beginning, and Jadagrace delivering a James Baldwin passage in the end our goal was to leave the audience in their head. We know a lot of people know days are watching video content on their phones so we intentionally turned the last last thirty seconds of the video over to the black mirror so the only thing you see on the screen is yourself while the voice over plays.
