We were stoked to collaborate again with Jesse Rothenberg on another dark comedy called Jacuzzi Man! This film was in participation with the Illinois Arts Council Grant that we received to make the film.
One of the most prominent rules of the grant was that the film had to be made in Illinois, entirely… Since our film centered around a jacuzzi we got to work on locating the perfect one. This process took roughly 2 months. Given that Illinois is very much a seasonal climate, there were few places that checked all the boxes we were looking for. We probably called 50 hotels, apartment buildings, and public pools, RV Parks, and really anywhere with a pool and a hot tub; we heard 49 “no’s” and only 1 “yes”. Sometimes that’s all it takes! The location we ended up finding was a perfect fit and they were incredibly accommodating.
This production was an overnight shoot. What that means is you literally shoot from sundown to sun-up so you can maximize the amount of darkness. We essentially had 6-7 hours of complete darkness to work with which made our schedule a challenge but we got it all done with our great crew!
We had a fantastic cast on this film. We were honored to have Richard Cotovsky and Terrence Carey act in this film. They were really a great fit together on-screen!
This film premiered at Beyond Fest Chicago and is doing a festival run; we’ll see where it goes after that!
