This was a monumental project for us at V1A, it marks the first time shooting on film for a client and we cannot wait to do it again. It was such an incredible experience for us. We gotta hand it to Atypikal for trusting us in a big way, without them this would have never come to fruition! It’s not easy to sell clients on film these days so this was a big win for all of us.
From the start, we wanted to tell a rugged story of a dirtbiker’s hectic day that ended with him and his friends hanging out and enjoying some ice cold drinks at the track. The idea was to show how this Snap N’ Go Cooler fits into so many small places yet is still rugged just like any other Coleman product.
We wanted to capture some real dirtbiking action on camera so we aimed to find authentic dirtbikers. Our team got to work on casting non-actors to fill the roles of the commercial. We ended up finding a group of bikers that ride together frequently and they were all good friends outside of shredding. The authenticity of their connection really showed on camera and they absolutely ripped up the track on our shoot day.
It really all started to come together when we found Pilot Offroad in Austin. We filmed at their bike shed and dirtbike track nearby. Again, it was an actual dirtbike shed so it was just exactly what we were looking for.
When you’re on an actual film set, the vibe subtly changes; and everyone has to be 100% dialed. We did multiple camera rehearsals instead of recording many takes, which is what we usually do when we’re filming on digital. With this process we were ready to nail the shot from all perspectives when that film was rolling.
We’re very proud of this piece and hoping we get to shoot on film much more now that we’ve got this one under our belt!
