For this project we filmed on-site at Loyola Medicine’s hospital in one day. Now this shoot had many challenges but probably the biggest challenge of them all was that:: a hospital can’t just close down for a commercial shoot, so we had to work around the hospital. This meant for our crew to be malleable at ALL times. The last thing we wanted to do was to slow down any of the hospital staff. For 1 scene of this shoot we had to film in the ER, at any point in our schedule we could have gotten kicked out of the ER so the staff could treat a patient. When available, most of our crew would work outside and then come inside only if necessary.
In this industry it’s important to be flexible and always have a plan A, B, C,…, and Z! This production was a great example of that - we were supposed to shoot this helicopter scene at the top of the day and very quickly in the morning our day was completely flipped. Our entire crew had to switch gears and pivot immediately; you can’t lose time.
It was a hectic day but in the end we made our day and got every shot on our shot list. Even nailed the helicopter scene!
